COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS THEORY AND HISTORY
What are the Types of Animation?
"Animation is an umbrella term for a lot of dynamic graphics techniques, which are used to design the different types of animation, including:
Basic animation
2D or two-dimensional animation
3D or three-dimensional animation
Stop-motion animation
And finally, Motion graphics" (logo poppin, 2022 ).
"Difference Between Motion Graphics and Animation
A motion graphics video typically includes on-screen text combined with shapes and sometimes images. An animated video is most suitable when you’re looking to tell a story. A major visual component of storytelling is the utilization of characters that viewers often find relatable. Although storytelling isn’t necessarily absent from a motion graphics video, generally it’s not the core purpose. While animated videos comprise of moving illustrations, motion graphics are often added on top of real-life footage. The following are some of the examples of such motion graphics elements.
Moving backgrounds
Lower thirds/ Title cards
Animated icons Animated elements such as doodles
Logo animations" ( Najeeb, 2022)
FIRST ANIMATED MOVIE
J. Stuart Blackton's animated movie “Humorous Phases of Funny Faces” 1906
(Encyclopædia Britannica, 2022)
My Opinion:
WHY THIS IS NOT THE FIRST MOTION GRAPHICS?
THIS MOVIE STARTS WITH ANIMATED GRAPHIC CONTENT LIKE TEXT ANIMATION AS WELL AS SHAPE,
According to the theory and definition, this movie has motion graphics.
TYPES OF MOTION GRAPHICS
What are the Types of Motion Graphics? There are various types of video motion graphics examples, including:
Explainer videos
Walkthroughs/Instructional videos
UI animation
Dynamic logos
Dynamic icons
Animated page titles
Animated infographics Presentations
Broadcasting motion graphics
GIFs
ORIGIN OF MOTION ILLUSION

ORIGIN OF MOTION GRAPHICS “almost everything that moves and that involves a graphic element is Motion Graphics” (Silveira, 2021) Michael Betancourt (“The Origins of Motion Graphics”, ) a film theorist, explains that motion graphics is a graphics medium that uses video recording or animation technology to create the illusion of motion or rotation( Betancourt, 2013)
zoetrope
Illustration of a zoetrope, which creates the illusion of a moving image within a rotating drum by way of a series of still images.
The zoetrope (pronounced ZOH-uh-trohp), invented in 1834 by William George Horner, was an early form of motion picture projector that consisted of a drum containing a set of still images, that was turned in a circular fashion in order to create the illusion of motion.
Horner originally called it the Daedatelum, but Pierre Desvignes, a French inventor, renamed his version of it the zoetrope (from Greek word root zoo for animal life and trope for "things that turn.") A zoetrope is relatively easy to build. It can be turned at a variable rate to create slow-motion or speeded-up effects. Like other motion simulation devices, the zoetrope depends on the fact that the human retina retains an image for about a tenth-of-a-second so that if a new image appears in that time, the sequence was seem to be uninterrupted and continuous. It also depends on what is referred to as the Phi phenomenon, which observes that we try to make sense out of any sequence of impressions, continuously relating them to each other. The visual effect created by a zoetrope (or zoopraxiscope) is still used today to create animated GIFs and video display technologies such as streaming video, which essentially allows cinematographers to create an effect of motion by presenting discrete but closely-related images one after the other.
INVESTIGATING THE ORIGIN OF MOTION GRAPHICS
The visual effect created by a zoetrope (or zoopraxiscope) is still used today to create animated GIFs.
We have seen that GIFs is a type of Motion Graphics So zoetrope animation should be one kind of Motion Graphics According to the History, Device described in John Bate's The Mysteries of Nature and Art (1635) should be the origin of motion graphics.
